However, from shyness to depression, something else is equally important... changing behavior. We can't just think our way out of these problems - to change behavior we have to do the behavior (it isn't possible to learn to ride a bike just by thinking about it!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Of course, changing behavior alone will not help if we still feel bad about ourselves or still have unanswered questions about the problem. Any force over which we have little understanding and even less control will always hold power over us, for it is unpredictable and could harm us and as such remains frightening.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Therefore:- &lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Successfully overcoming anxiety disorders requires BOTH insight and behavior change.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;We need to:-&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Understand the problem (how it developed and it's effects) to such an extent that the search for reasons and answers can be given up&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Reduce the automatic negative thoughts, images and behaviors&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Develop more positive beliefs and behaviors&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;COURAGE is not the absence of fear. It is feeling afraid but keeping those feelings sufficiently under control to be able to act appropriately.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Once we begin to understand how anxiety disorders work - much of the fear of them is removed. The counseling was to be used in conjunction with medication therapy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Psychotherapy studies have shown good results in helping people learn how to overcome panic attacks through the use of behavior and cognitive therapies. A commonly prescribed SSRIS is Prozac.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Panic attacks are diagnosed as a disorder caused by disruptions in the serotonin system, either due to low levels of serotonin or due to decreased sensitivity to serotonin. If the panic attacks is a result of low levels of serotonin, the SSRI would replenish them and cause the condition to subside.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Alternatively if the panic attack is due to decreased sensitivity to serotonin, then the increased levels of serotonin from the &lt;a href="http://www.panicanxietycenter.com/panic-attack-medication-ssri-discontinuation-syndrome/"&gt;SSRI&lt;/a&gt; would make up for decreased sensitivity and cause the condition to subside.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Either way the sufferer would have relief. Some are good, many are just okay. They may also develop other stomach issues like irritable bowel syndrome. Even during the times they are not suffering from anxiety issues their stomach might be upset. They will begin to fear they have some physical problems like cancer or an ulcer and these fears will build up over time. While sleeping their stomach may make strange noises and wake them up. There is no worse time for people who suffer from anxiety than being awake in the middle of the night and experiencing some of their physical symptoms. This is the "perfect storm" for panic attack sufferers as there are no distractions in the quiet of the night--- the mind is free to play its tricks. I can't believe I am getting so old, at least until I remember all of the aches and pains I am feeling.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My eyesight has gone down hill. I didn't think that happened until at least 50. To read things up close, I have to take off my glass. That is SO annoying.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I get up in the morning, I can feel my joints creak and pop - yikes, I'm not 80!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I've noticed that I don't hear as well anymore. I've noticed that I often have to ask the children, "What did you say? I can't hear you." That drives me nuts, too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pugsly, our miniature schnauzer is going to be 13 on January 2. He is in the same boat as me. Bad eyesight, hearing, and joints. We are growing old together, although I don't know how much longer he will be around. I've loved that number ever since I read "The Mystery of the 99 Steps" Nancy Drew book. I have looked forward to today for quite some time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At 09:09:09 am, I posted to my Facebook and Twitter accounts. That was pretty cool, because those posts are now documented for posterity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then the day became pretty anti-climactic. I guess I felt let down that I didn't have anything "really important" to do today. By the end of the evening I felt pretty darn &lt;a href="http://panicanxietycenter.com/"&gt;depressed&lt;/a&gt;. I knew why I felt that way, so I wasn't worried. I pondered this for quite awhile and went through the events in my life where I could recall the situation I was in when my symptoms started up.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;I found that the saying is exactly true! When I felt &lt;a href="http://panicanxietycenter.com/"&gt;depressed&lt;/a&gt;, what ever I was thinking about had to do with something I had done, or that someone else had done. I felt depressed when I felt like a failure - something I didn't do well enough in the past. The times I felt anxiety were when I was thinking about something I had to do, like speak in public or testify in a court trial.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The first step in being about to overcome &lt;a href="http://panicanxietycenter.com/"&gt;depression and anxiety&lt;/a&gt; is to learn to recognize what is immediately causing it to appear. I did some research and determined what my problem was. Now, I am not one to take medication of any kind, including Tylenol and Ibruprofen, so I immediately tried to find herbal supplements that would work in place of medicine.
